The ever-growing world of online gambling is not isolated to just men gamblers. An increasing number of gamblers on the Internet are women, prompting some sites to target the ladies in their attempt to grow their clientele.
Women are not as likely as men to simply wander into a land-based casino, but there are reports that indicate women are more comfortable betting online. That was exemplified in a recent report in The Observer that claims Internet gambling is becoming “hugely popular.”
There is little doubt as to how much the online gambling industry has grown over the past couple of years. There are now thousands of websites dedicated to offering casino games. That is in contrast to a decade ago when there was only a couple hundred of these sites available.
“The numbers across the board are up when it comes to online gambling,” said Gaming Analyst Brad Dawkins, “That is why it seems as though there are more women enjoying Internet gambling than ever before. The numbers should continue to grow as countries expand their online gambling laws.”
One country that the industry would love for the laws to change is the US. The US is considered to be the biggest online gambling market in the world, despite having a government who has tried to alienate the industry in the past couple of years.
Representative Barney Frank and other members of the new administration are working towards changing the laws in the US. Rep. Frank has proposed legislation that would overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006.
If that legislation is approved, the government would begin regulating Internet gambling. If the recent reports are accurate, that would be good news for the women in the US.
